Has anyone taken any online courses? If so, how bvision sensitive are they? How accessable are the materials? If they aren't accessable how do you get around that problem? I hope someone can answer these questions as I am thinking about taking some courses and want to know I'll be able to do it before I commit to something I can't finish. Thanks djmom
Yes, I've taken an online IT course at www.vision2learn.com. I believe they also do various career related courses and others that may or may not be of interest. You do the course online, and receive feedback on your assessments from a tutor based at a local college by an email system hosted by the website. I don't use a screen reader so I can't comment on how accessible it was from that point of view, but they were very understanding when I was unable to submit an assessment that required drawing a diagram. I was allowed to provide a detailed description instead.
If you want to do something that will get to degree or foundation degree level, I'm sure the Open University has support services that would be able to advise. www.open.ac.uk
Have you heard of Hadley School for the Blind? I'm not sure of the exact website URL, but I'm sure you can google it. They have courses available in Braille, tape, and strictly via computer access. I've heard it's a very good correspondence school with a wide variety of courses.
Yes, I have taken some courses through Hadley. That worked very well. But now, I'd like to further my education and need additional course work. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Donna (djmom)
